Shocking footage shows a giant vehicle that apparently lost control, reportedly killing three people and injuring 38
At least three people have died and another 38 have been injured in Colombia after a monster truck driver lost control of her vehicle and plowed into a crowd of spectators during a motor show, AFP reported on Monday, citing local authorities.
Footage circulating on social media shows the vehicle navigating an obstacle course during a show featuring modified cars and motorcycles on Sunday in the city of Popayan, southwest of Bogota.
The driver was reportedly unable to brake after a stunt, and the vehicle suddenly headed toward the crowd of spectators after knocking down the metal barriers separating the public from the track.
"We are deeply saddened by this accident... which, according to preliminary figures, has caused more than 38 injuries and three deaths," said city mayor Juan Carlos Munoz, as cited by AFP.
A Popayan city official told Colombian newspaper El Espectador that one of the victims was a ten-year-old girl.
The area where the incident occurred has been secured while the electricity company carries out reconnection work due to damage caused by the accident, Colonel Francisco Arboleda of the fire department said, as cited by the newspaper.
